Lang’s Ways By Ollie Lang for Paintball Sports Magazine
Published: April 2, 2009
One of the busiest world travelers in the universe is professional paintball player, Oliver Lang. Ollie is the most popular professional paintball player and ambassador of the sport. He’s been playing for the Los Angeles Ironmen for the past three seasons now, a team that he started his professional paintball career with. Ollie started playing paintball at the age of 14 and now, 11 years later, he’s won every desired championship title that every pro and wannabe-pro dreams of winning. He travels all over the world doing what he loves - playing paintball - and he’ll be blogging all about his travels and living the paintball life right here at PaintballSportsMag.com. This is Ollie’s Blog entitled, “Lang’s Ways”.
Here’s his debut blog with PSM where he shares with us a little about what he’s learned along his travels. Nicky shared his story with us about his visit to Iran, and Ollie answers a few questions we had for him about the trip, as well.
Lang’s Ways
A very important thing I have learned along my journey is that being humble and getting humbled is a powerful thing.
Most people come into the paintball scene or life in general thinking they are owed something or that the are better than the next.
There is a fine line between being cocky, arrogant, and confident. Confidence is everything, but you have to learn how to control it and stay grounded.
I have seen people blast into the scene with all the ability needed to become one of paintball’s best, but all too often I see them quickly burn all bridges and are out on the curb looking for a team.
Stay humble and be humbled; learn from your past, move forward.
Thanks,
Oliver lang

Iran’s Kish Island’s Golden Palm Paintball Tournament
March 2-6, 2009
Some of the members of the Los Angeles Ironmen entered into the Iranian paintball event and represented the United States. They were coined the “U.S.” team.

U.S. Team " Iran Team
There were a total of nine teams that hailed from different countries (like Germany and France) with another 20 teams that came from within Iran.

Top 3 Placements:
1st Place: U.S. Team (Ironmen)
2nd Place: Iran’s Datis
3rd Place: Neterhlands’ Amsterdam Sabotage

Quick Q&A with Oliver
PSM: What did you think when they first introduced the idea of your going to Iran?
Ollie: I was a little scared, but really what is there to be scared about. I love adventure.
PSM: When did you leave and when did you get back? (How long were you there)?
Ollie: We left the 27th of February, flew to Dubai for the night, caught a flight out early to Kish Island the next day, then stayed til the 5th of March in Iran. We were back to Dubai for two extra days of adventure.
Ollie: It was held at the Olympic Stadium on Kish Island of main land Iran. It was a very nice venue set up properly with nice grass for the fields and had an ideal vendor’s area.
PSM: What was the paintball event’s format?
Ollie: It was the Millenium Series format: SPL, race to 4 points.
PSM: What else did you do when you went there?
Ollie: Went to an underground city, saw a greek ship wreck. Walked the malls and went to a secret party (drinking is prohibited and so is partying).
PSM: After visiting Iran, did it break a stereotype?
Ollie: Indeed, they loved americans and hate their government. They were very interested to know what we thought about Iran and Iranian people. They are the same as us, but just much more involved in the old tradition of religion (mainly all the same beliefs but pray to a different god).
PSM: What else is interesting about Iran?
Ollie: They have a male-only and female-only beach. You can’t be at the beach with your wife unless your fully clothed. The people were great and the women were beautiful, although you couldn’t really talk to them because it was taboo for them.
PSM: The 2nd place finishers, Datis… what did you think of them?
Ollie: The Datis paintball team is really good and would do very well in the States if they came over to complete.

This weekend, Oliver is attending the USPL, guesting with Pro Team, DC Arsenal. Keep up with Oliver’s travels and lessons learned on those trips right here at his PSM blog, Lang’s Ways. Visit http://www.OllieLang.com or follow him via the following social websites:
